The Day After Tomorrow

If you have listened to the beautiful song, The Day After Tomorrow, by Tom Waits, then you somewhat know the music and the inspiration behind the lyrics. Even though it might not sound too clean with Wait's "gruffed voice", he’s comfortable with his work because, to him it has worth, durability and permanance(Tom Waits Biography). Besides his voice making a song he also can play the keyboard, percussion, and the guitar, which he uses in his famous song, "The Day After Tomorrow"(Tom Waits Biography).

In this song, who is Waits singing about? Is it a son, is he possibly singing of his own experience, or is it a general feeling for all those we wait for to come home? I believe it's about all who are waiting to return the day after tomorrow and their struggle of being in the war.
